Foot pain is one of the most common health complaints in our country. It affects nearly nine out of every ten people and is too often ignored. Our feet support our weight our entire life, and they are one of our most valuable and under-appreciated body parts. Foot pain can also lead to other problems including back pain, headaches and even poor posture.

One great way to sooth uncomfortable feet is with a Soothing Herbal Foot Soak. Herbal Foot Baths are easy to make and a great way to relax after a long day. Not only will it make your feet feel 100% better after an herbal foot soak but both your body and mind will feel more rested and relaxed as well. Making your own foot soak will save you a bundle over going to an expensive Spa.

Things You Will Need:

  • 2 cups – dried herbs (see list and descriptions after instructions)
  • 2 Gallons of distilled water
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • ½ Epsom salts
  • 1 Large pan or foot bath
  • 1 Large Saucepan
  • 1 Towel

Instructions:

Step 1: Wash your feet with soap and water and towel dry prior to your foot soak.

Step 2: Heat the water in your large saucepan. Bringing to a boil and add your choice of dried herbs, salts and baking powder.

Step 4: Let mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes.

Step 5: Place your large pan or foot bath on top of a towel on the floor. Pour your herbal foot soak into your ready pan and let stand for 10 minutes or until warm enough to touch.

Step 6: Relax and enjoy!

There are many different herbs available with their own unique abilities. They can be purchased at pharmacies, natural health stores and online. Here are a few of the most commonly used varieties for foot pain.

Lavender has been historically used in baths to purify and clean both the spirit and body, it is very effective is used to cure insomnia, anxiety and pain. Lavender also has antifungal and antibacterial properties and is considered a very relaxing scent.

Ginger has been used in traditional medicine in Asia for thousands of years. It has very strong antioxidant qualities and has been used to relieve pain from skin conditions and irritations for centuries

Chamomile is generally calming and effective for topical skin care and is also used to soothe emotional irritation.

Peppermint is ideal for herbal foot soaks because of its antiseptic properties. Peppermint helps to reduce redness and skin irritation and increase in circulation. Increased circulation helps relieve itching and removes toxins. The cooling effect of peppermint is a nice effect on tired, swollen and achy feet.
